It was a whirlwind trip to Plaza Singapura to catch Lee Dong Wook’s barely 20-min press conference. But it was all worth the rush, when you could meet the heartthrob barely 10 meters from the stage.
I woke up that morning scrolling through my Facebook feeds as usual. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw my ticket number being cited as one of the lucky winners to be able to catch his Press Conference at PS upfront. With barely 1 hour to the event, there was no time or room for hesitation.
The success of TVN drama, Goblin, has indeed pushed Lee Dong Wook’s popularity up another level. The Grim Reaper finally made his appearance in Singapore after 6 long years.
As the event was based outdoors (not again!), the throngs of 1000 over fans were waiting patiently under the sweltering heat at 12 pm. Some came as early as 6am and I applaud them for their determination to see their favourite oppa.
Lee Dong Wook made his appearance in a greyish pink suit. Not many guys are able to carry off this colour but it looked just perfect on him.
Other than Won Bin and Song Seung Heon, he’s the 3rd Korean actor whom I feel is really handsome looking in real life.
He’s pretty tall at 1.84m, has snow-white skin and absolutely good complexion. Oh yes, those very pink, pouty lips as well. Some fine lines and wrinkles are perfectly alright for someone age 36. At least, he’s aging so oh gracefully.
Was glad that the host was Ah Ken, who’s known for livening up the atmosphere and could crack some jokes. Because Lee Dong Wook is more of a quiet and low profile person, it might be really tough to get him talking.
Nonetheless, Ah Ken wasn’t really able to match up to Dong Wook oppa’s frequency as he was just too prim and proper, even in his responses.
Sorry that there’s just so little that I could recall of the interview but I don’t think anyone’s complaining for the visual aesthetics made it way more captivating and interesting than the content of the interview.
He’s got a pretty charming smile.
Q&A:
He was apologetic for not being able to spend more time at the airport when he arrived the day before as he was worried about the safety and security issues of his fans. The low profile acted didn’t want to be a public nuisance.
However, he was only able to stay in the hotel and couldn’t roam about the streets or try out much local food.
Then you began to hear various shout-outs from the crowd, that the fans wanted him to visit their homes.
When Ah Ken asked WHAT would the fans want him to do in their houses, the fans quipped “We can cook for him!”
“Cook?”, Dong Wook oppa asked.
The heartthrob declined the kind gesture as that would mean too many houses for him to visit in Singapore.
To spice things up a little, fans even offered their BEDs to the Grim Reaper.
Host Ah Ken began to ask mischievously, “What exactly do you want him to do on your beds then?”
The crowd went into a little frenzy.
Well, we see that Dong Wook oppa has got some naughty fans. Ahem. But they are good at making him laugh and smile so widely.
What is one supernatural power that you would like to have?
He chose the ability to teleport. It is time-saving and he could avoid traffic jams. “I can travel anywhere I want to and if I wish to travel from Korea to Singapore, I would be here instantly.”
Well, I guess that should be a common response for most stars. Time is of the essence to them, be it for work or leisure.
He was both surprised and elated to receive such a warm welcome from the fans in Singapore. He felt that Singapore fans are very passionate, just like the weather here. If he had the ability to teleport, he would visit Singapore every week.
Well, we know that’s just being a sweet but I wanna say, he’s way hotter than our weather here.
Ah Ken proceeded to ask how Dong Wook oppa maintains his complexion and takes care of such pink, luscious and kissable lips. Dong Wook Oppa quipped that he was born with them, as a matter-of-factly. Haha. He went on to mention that it was weird for men to have such conversations.
The so-ever prim and proper Dong Wook oppa refused to take the conversation further. He just didn’t feel comfortable at the idea of men harping on such topics.
What some of the plans that Lee Dong Wook has in 2017?
He would focus on embarking on his fan meet tour in Asia. He would then be working on a new project, but he hasn’t quite decided if it would be a new drama or movie. Much to the delight of his fans, he added that he would plan another fan meet in Singapore after his next project .
One of the hilarious moments came when asked what roles would fans love to see him take on in future.
Much as Goblin was popular as a fantasy drama, he hopes to try out the real life kind of drama. He felt that many of his roles are similar to his real self, so he doesn’t mind taking on different roles.
There the fans wanted him to act as a Bad Guy. He was receptive to that but when they started to ask him to act as a “Pervert” instead, he laughed.
Well well, seems like his fans are quite an interesting and playful bunch.
He does love to pout a little though.
When it was about time to end the press conference, he went on to thank his fans again for braving the heat and promised that they would have a fun and memorable time at the fan meet later that evening.
However, he refused to divulge what would be the content of the fan meet. He only promised that the fans would like it.
Well, nobody minded that they did not know what’s up later that evening.
What could matter more than for them to have a chance to meet their favourite star?
And so, it was really great to have seen Lee Dong Wook barely 10 metres away.
It’s not often we get to see real handsome guys standing right before us, like in dramas.
He’s so good looking that not much editing is required for the photos.
